Hey everyone, it’s Alanna again.
As Sam mentioned in his amazing post about Shanghai, we’ll be meeting up tomorrow (!!!) so this is my last post about Australia. Sorry it took so long between updates — the days have been really full lately trying to see as much of the country as possible before I leave.
So much has happened since my last post! Courtney and I picked up the lovely Miss Julia Sterling from the airport in Sydney. Court’s parents, Tracey and Trevor, very generously brought the three of us up to wine country, Mudgee, for the weekend-long wine festival there. Not surprisingly, we ate our weight in cheese and drank ourselves silly on wine samples — so much so that we were in bed by nine-thirty p.m.
Julia and I flew to Melbourne, where she’s been staying on exchange this past year. Melbourne is such a great city: amazing food, free museums and art galleries, beautiful state library, and overall young, lively feel to it. People love it there so much that they’re even willing to put up with the extremely changeable weather there — you can go through all four seasons in fewer than four hours in that city.
The wild weather was, in fact, primarily responsible for my first black eye! I’ve always known that sooner or later, I would pick a fight that I would lose — I just never expected it to be against an advertising flag. Big wind + solid pole of the flag + Alanna’s face = first shiner.
I had an amazing time in Melbourne, though, and so much of it had to do with seeing Julia again after being in different provinces or continents for so many years.
Ah! It seems this post is too long for the host website to handle, so I’ll continue it in part two.
